This Week’s Archived Livestream:

Summary:

[6:57] I have a lot of NoFollow backlinks from .IN domains (India). Do these links hurt my rankings?

These links just sound like the usual spam that most websites get every now and then. It doesn’t really matter if they come from an Indian domain. Your best line of defense is to continue strengthening your backlink profile by acquiring healthy, quality links which signal to Google that your site is legitimate and valuable. In doing this, miscellaneous spam links won’t have a significant impact on your site.

[14:00] My website has 99% DoFollow backlinks. Will it get penalized?

First determine how your website is performing in the SERPs and whether there is a relationship to how many DoFollow backlinks you were getting over time. Having 99% DoFollow links is not natural and we advise that you remedy the situation sooner than later in order to avoid any Google penalties. You can do this by pillow link building to insulate your site and increase its proportion of NoFollow backlinks.

[22:50] Some of my keywords are getting a lot of impressions without any clicks. What should I do?

The two most likely causes for getting impressions and no clicks are:

  1. Your site / page is not in the Top 3 SERP positions
  2. Your title tag is irrelevant and doesn’t match the user’s search intent

[31:26] Do you recommend methods to rank “auto-generation” tools like a schema generator?

To be honest, we stay away from anything that’s auto-generated and we don’t focus a lot on schema markup. We prefer to do everything manually, so we focus on using and ranking for manual methods.

[42:00] My website has 60 articles and only 15 are indexed by Google? Why?

60 articles is not a very big website, so maybe your content is taking longer to index because you don’t have a lot of backlinks. How long an article gets indexed depends on how often your site is getting crawled, which depends on how many backlinks you have and how good your inner linking structure is to help the crawler. Things get indexed faster when you have more backlinks.

[45:35] Should I buy a .net Domain with the same name as my .com authority site in order to 301 it?

Yes, you can. You want to make sure it has a strong backlink profile or generates traffic from your target niche. If the quality and traffic checks out, then it will depend on whether the .net domain is worth the selling price to you. Check out this clip to learn a bit more.

[49:50] Should I remove pages from a website that cannot be monetized?

If these pages are not hurting your rankings, then you should keep them as informational pages and for inner-linking. Content is valuable, so why throw it away if it can be used for other purposes?

[55:57] Can setting ‘Goals’ in Google Analytics help with SEO?

No, nothing you do in Analytics will directly affect your SEO. Google Analytics is good for analytics and gives you ideas on how to improve your assets.

[56:50] Will viruses / malware on a site negatively impact its ranking?

Yes, viruses and malware can affect your ranking so always keep an eye out for these. The effect may not be immediate. Google checks to see whether websites are actively engaged by their owners and whether site owners are trying to fix problems which arise, like viruses or hacks etc.

[1:00:21] Do local websites need localized backlinks in order to rank or can they receive backlinks from anywhere in the world?

Simply put, you want both local and niche-relevant backlinks. It’s okay for backlinks to come from outside the local region, as long as they are niche-relevant and make sense for the business to have.
