This Week’s Archived Livestream:

Summary:

[22:13] Do you guys do international link building (non-English)?

Yes, we can build links to a foreign site and we can use foreign language anchor text that you provide as long as it’s using the English alphabet.

Keep in mind that all of our websites are in English, so it would make more sense if you were using English anchors. However, we can use foreign language sites in our Managed Link Building Program only if we use branded/URL/generic English anchors (our link building team is English-only).

[24:48] What would your on-page advice be to someone who just started building an affiliate site for the first time?

Stick to the fundamentals and don’t worry about doing too much. Start with solid keyword research so you can optimize on-page elements like your slugs, SEO titles, and meta descriptions.

Check out our on-page guide for beginners for more information. This article will cover pretty much everything we do in terms of on-page optimization. We really keep it simple and don’t overthink the process.

For example, we focus on 5 core elements: domain name, inner-page URLs, title tags, heading tags, and meta descriptions. We also consider page speed optimization. We use tools like Surfer SEO and Ahrefs for keyword research and content optimization.

[38:57] What types of links should I go with? A few high authority links or a lot of cheaper links? Also, how “exact” should exact match anchors be?

You should diversify by using both high authority links and cheaper links. Most of your budget may go towards mid to high authority links if you don’t need to focus on link/anchor diversity, but you should use an ample amount of low authority (i.e. cheaper) links every now and then for anchor pillowing (adding a bunch of natural branded/URL/generic anchors) and creating link diversity if necessary.

Regarding exact match anchors — yes, you can buy links with exact match anchors. Exact match anchors are powerful, but you should use them in moderation. Some sites overuse exact match anchors in an unnatural way. Don’t do this. Instead, your anchor text profile should be diversified and contain some exact match anchors. We like to do a lot of anchor pillowing to the homepage with branded/URL anchors before attacking with exact match anchors.

[1:04:21] Is it better to have one general, backlink-rich SEO landing page that covers all topics, or a separate landing page for each topic with fewer backlinks?

You need to look at what works for the competition and what Google is allowing to rank for specific keywords. Some sites will have very long articles that cover a lot of topics/categories and rank for numerous keywords, while other sites can have shorter articles that cover subcategories of a parent topic. Also, you should send a lot of backlinks to your homepage and some links to your hub pages and inner pages every now and then.

[1:08:42] Does a 301 redirect from a non-relevant domain to a money page site move the needle anymore?

Nick:

It can, but don’t automatically expect a huge boost in the SERPs from general, non-relevant 301’s. Even when I use 301’s for niche-relevant sites it can take months before anything happens. You should use 301’s in a natural way to maximize their potential. For example, publishing a press release that says you’re taking over another company is a natural way to get backlinks.

Chris:

Try to be as relevant as possible. Parent niches can be a good choice for a 301 redirect too. I wouldn’t use anything that’s outside of the parent niche.

[1:13:57] If I have a link from a non-relevant page, can I improve the relevancy of the page by linking to it with specific niche-relevant anchors?

Honestly, we never do this and would advise you to try a different strategy.

[1:22:40] I have a music site PBN linking to a locksmith site. Can I do tier 2 links with locksmith-relevant anchors to boost relevancy?

We don’t do this either and would advise that you leave it as is.
