Summary:
[18:40] What are some good tips for optimizing websites for local SEO?
In general, you’ll probably want to utilize two hubs/menus: WHAT services you provide & WHERE you provide them. It doesn’t matter how you list your locations in terms of web design so long as site visitors can search/find them on the site.
Then you will need to create landing pages for each location/service area using the same template. They should provide a little content about the service offered in a specific geographic location. You can spin the content on each landing page so that it’s slightly different from the others. Listing unique NAP (name, address, phone number) information on each landing page is preferred.
The actual location name is a target keyword associated with your brand name, product, or service (e.g., hotel cleaning in [location name]). Try to include it in the landing page content and other on-page positions.
There are also valuable tools that increase the local search visibility of your site such as Google My Business, Google Maps 3-Pack, and social media. Our article on local lead generation explains these tools in more detail.
[28:30] Why does Google sometimes change meta descriptions?
It’s true that Google can use its discretion in setting your meta description. It’s not something we worry about too much because we don’t know how to prevent Google from changing the meta anyways. We just focus on including our target keywords in the description.
One reason why Google might alter your meta is because it wants to display your page but the meta doesn’t include any keywords. So Google will find related content on your site that includes the keywords so it can bold them in the meta description.
[35:16] How do you establish the credibility of a persona/pseudonym for publishing articles?
This is kind of an overrated technique that we don’t spend much time on. However, it’s quite simple to do. You can create any name you want and then use certain techniques to get it displayed in Google search results. These include creating an author bio page with a photo and some background/contact information, social media profiles, and published blog posts.
[46:05] How do you index pillow links?
We don’t think anyone should spend time trying to index pillow links. Our philosophy is that we don’t want to try and force the issue of indexing a link that’s supposed to be 100% natural. There are some pillow links that will always get indexed by Google and others that won’t. They aren’t used for ranking so we don’t worry as much about them being indexed or not.
Having said that, there’s actually a tool you can try out called Omega Indexer.
[50:22] Should you noindex or delete tag pages?
You can do both (e.g., using Yoast SEO to noindex them). Tags aren’t used that much these days. You don’t want tags to distract Google from crawling your important blog posts so we would remove them.
