Our Web 2.0 list along with everything else provided in this article will be more than enough to make this tool a great addition to your link building arsenal.

What is a Web 2.0?

Getting backlinks from web 2.0s is great!

For most of its history, the internet has been a place where people have gone to find information.

Web 1.0 websites were static – you could only read them. There was very little interaction between users, there weren’t any comment sections or other channels to provide any kind of feedback to the publishers.

Now, the internet has become a place where people go to create content as well as interact with content.

Simply, this is what is meant by Web 2.0. Web 2.0 sites are dynamic and allow users to create their own pages, comment, post images or links, and interact with other users in a variety of different ways.

Blogs, social networking sites, and video-sharing platforms are all examples of Web 2.0 sites. But when we talk about Web 2.0’s from an SEO perspective, we are generally talking about websites that allow you to create mini-websites on their platform.

These services represent a great, free resource for link building as you have full control over the mini-websites, the content on them, and what they are in turn linking out to.

Are Web 2.0 Sites Good for SEO?

Getting backlinks from web 2.0s is great!

There are a variety of benefits from an SEO point of view to using the sites mentioned on our free Web 2.0 sites list.

Authority

First and foremost, Web 2.0’s generally have a high-DA (domain authority). As the authority of websites is one thing that’s weighed when determining page ranking, links from these mini-websites can be great for your SEO.

This authority makes them also very safe to use. While we don’t recommend going crazy with the amount of Web 2.0’s you build for backlinks, it’s still hard to get yourself in trouble with them.

Their authority also makes them great assets to use as tier-2 properties to beef up with backlinks of their own. Point a few PBN links or niche edits at them to really give them a boost.

Ease of Use

Web 2.0 websites allow you to embed URLs however you see fit, linking directly to your sites. You don’t need any kind of approval.

The platforms are all also very easy to set up and use which is why they were created in the first place – as an alternative to using something like WordPress or HTML to build a site for those that don’t have the skills necessary.

Control

In addition to the links you will be creating on your Web 2.0 mini sites, you also have control over the content. This means that you can create highly relevant backlinks as well by writing articles on topics in your niche and choosing whatever anchor text you want. The platforms mentioned on our list will also be giving you dofollow backlinks.

Additional Assets to Rank

Using Web 2.0’s to create backlinks is great, but they also give you additional sites and pages to rank on the SERPs.

You can rank them for whatever you want while leveraging their innate authority (this can often make it a bit easier than ranking a normal site), and then redirect the traffic to your main site via the backlinks you’ve created.

Web 2.0 sites usually have pretty fast crawl rates as well, making them a good tool for trying to get other content indexed.

Cost

Have we not mentioned they’re free?

Is Using Web 2.0’s for Links Considered Gray-Hat SEO?

The answer is technically yes.

Any user can generate, edit, or update content on free Web 2.0 sites. If this is done for the sake of link-building, then it’s definitely gray-hat. The trick is just putting in the minimal effort so that you don’t encounter any issues.

It’s recommended that you have an active presence on your Web 2.0 sites as well as create quality content for them. Keep them updated, post new content from time to time, and in general just make sure they don’t appear too spammy or low-quality.

When built in moderation, using Web 2.0 sites to generate backlinks carries extremely little risk. So little risk, in fact, that many people mistakenly consider them white-hat SEO and use them for white-hat link building campaigns.

This is due to the innate authority and trust that the root domains have.

How to Get Web 2.0 Backlinks

So now that you know the benefits of using Web 2.0’s,  you’re probably wondering how to get started.

1. Choose a website. Start with one and expand to five or ten. Your best bet is to stick to the Web 2.0 sites listed below.

2. Create a free account. When you create your Web 2.0 domain, add some of your keywords to the domain name if possible. Next, fill in all of the account details: contact info, about, likes and dislikes, etc. Make it look as complete and real as possible.

3. Create Content. Create quality content for your Web 2.0 domain that’s relevant to the site or sites you plan on linking to. You can cater your posts to specific elements of the primary site that you want to draw people to. Include pictures or videos as well.

4. Drop the Links. You can go ahead and put the links in your content as you wish. Make sure to include some outbound authority links too. We don’t recommend linking to your main site more than once or twice per Web 2.0. Some people like to wait until the site indexes to drop the links in, but we don’t think it’s too necessary.

Web 2.0 Backlink Tips

Remember, the goal is to make your web 2.0 links and pages as natural and useful as possible without having to dump too much time and effort into them.

Make sure you:

Treat your Web 2.0 sites like they’re your own.

Choose an appropriate domain name and theme.

Use proper SEO techniques on the page.

Include links to other external articles.

Publish posts on a regular basis for added results.

Include images and other media.

Focus on the long game, not short-term profit.

Try to avoid:

Posting any links until you’ve already generated some content.

Filling your domain with poor-quality or auto-generated articles.

Reposting the same one or two articles on a dozen Web 2.0 domains.

Copying content – write your own!

Violating the guidelines of the web 2.0 sites you are using.

Focusing on only generating backlinks.

Creating multiple domains on a single platform to link to the same site.

Spamming or including irrelevant backlinks.
